Glitchless vs Talo: game observability versus an open-source game backend
The Glitchless team · October 23, 2026 · Checked against Talo's site, docs, changelog and GitHub on October 23, 2026
Talo is an open-source (MIT) game backend for Godot and Unity: player accounts, cloud saves, leaderboards, stats, live config and player feedback, with event analytics and funnels. Glitchless has none of the backend parts.
Glitchless measures how a game runs and plays for real players: frame times and each stutter's cause, crashes with the events before them, level death heatmaps, retention, revenue and bug reports with screenshots, on every major engine. Its MCP server hands that to your coding agent.
They fit together cleanly: Talo for the backend, Glitchless for performance and players.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Talo if
- You need a backend: player logins, cloud saves, leaderboards, live config or presence.
- Your game is in Godot or Unity and you want one open-source service for those features and basic analytics.
- You want separate debug and release data during a jam, which Talo's jam toolkit sets up.
Choose Glitchless if
- You want to know why the game stutters: every frame timed on players' machines, with each hitch's likely cause.
- You need crashes and errors grouped into issues, with what the player did before each one.
- You want retention, revenue, level death heatmaps and bug reports with screenshots.
- Your game is in Unreal, GameMaker or a web engine, or your coding agent does the fixing over MCP.
Using both
Run Talo for accounts, saves and leaderboards, and Glitchless for performance, errors and how people play. Both are MIT and both self-host, so a small team can run the pair on its own server.
Frequently asked questions
Does Talo track performance or crashes?
Not that its docs describe: its events carry the OS, version and window size, but there's no frame-time, hitch or crash data. Glitchless records all three.
Does Glitchless have leaderboards or cloud saves?
No. Glitchless measures how the game runs and plays; for a backend, use something like Talo next to it.
Which is cheaper?
Both have free hosted tiers and both are free to self-host. Talo's paid plans start at $24.99 a month for up to 100,000 players; Glitchless Indie is $19 a month. See pricing.
Which works with coding agents?
Glitchless has an MCP server with 16 tools. Talo has REST and Admin APIs an agent could call, and no MCP server.
