Glitchless for Google Play
Connect your Android game's Play listing and each review sits next to the version and device it was written on, with Android vitals (slow rendering, crashes and ANRs) beside what Glitchless measured on the same version. Your coding agent reads both.
What it reads from Google Play
-
Reviews, by version and device
Each review names the version it was written on, the device and its class (phone, tablet, Chromebook). Stutter, lag, fps, freezes and crashes are picked out in nine languages.
-
Android vitals, by version
Slow rendering (frames slower than 20 and 30 fps), crash rate and ANR rate, by day and version code, read once a day.
-
The slowest devices and GPUs
The ten devices and the ten GPUs with the most players hit by slow rendering on Play's freshest day.
-
Next to what Glitchless measured
Play counts players a day; Glitchless counts sessions. Its slow rendering sits beside the share of sessions whose 75th-percentile frame ran slower than 20 or 30 fps, its crash rate beside crashed sessions, with a line wherever the two disagree and the likely reason.
-
Test phones aren't players
Play's pre-launch report runs your game on Firebase Test Lab phones. The Godot and Unity SDKs mark those sessions as bots, so they don't count as players or fill your errors.
-
A finding when reviews turn
When reviews of a new version complain about performance more than earlier ones did, triage says so, with the devices reviewers used and what Glitchless measured.
Connect it.
A service account that can read the app, then two fields in Glitchless Cloud.
- Google Cloud
Create a service account, turn on the Play Developer Reporting API and download its JSON key.
- Play Console
Invite the account's email to the app with View app information and Reply to reviews.
- Glitchless
In Integrations, add Google Play: enter the package name and drop the JSON key file.
Then ask your agent
Android vitals say slow rendering doubled on our latest version. Which devices and GPUs are hit, what do reviews of that version say, and what did Glitchless measure on it against the version before?
What your agent does with it
glitchless_store_vitals gives your agent Play's vitals version by version next to Glitchless's measures, the lines where they disagree, and the slowest devices and GPUs. glitchless_store_reviews reads the reviews of a version, filtered by positive or negative, a word or topic, or a device.
From there it can open the version's frame times with glitchless_performance, compare it with the last one with glitchless_compare_versions, and check a fix on the device class that's struggling before the next release.
What it never does
- Reply to a review or change anything in Play Console, even with the reply permission Google requires.
- Read or keep a reviewer's name or other reviews.
- Keep your key file anywhere you can see it again: the page reads it in your browser, it's encrypted when it arrives, and the dashboard shows only the account's email.
Not yet
- Google's reviews API only returns the last week of reviews that have text. Older ones are in Play's monthly review files, and importing them is a later step.
- The Firebase Test Lab check is in the Godot and Unity SDKs; the others treat those phones as players for now.
Questions
Why does the service account need "Reply to reviews"?
Google's reviews API asks for that permission even to read reviews. Glitchless only reads and never replies.
Does it read reviewers' names?
No. Reviews are kept with their text, stars, version and device, never the reviewer's name or other reviews.
Why do Play's numbers and Glitchless's differ?
Play counts each player once a day, only on devices it watches, and sees native crashes before the SDK starts. Glitchless counts sessions and also counts a stopped game loop or a fatal script error, which Android doesn't call a crash. The dashboard says which side counts more and why wherever they differ a lot.
How often does it sync, and how far back?
Reviews every 6 hours and vitals once a day. Vitals go back 30 days on the first sync; reviews go back a week, which is all Google's API gives, and every review is kept from then on.
Which plans include it?
